Rum To Rum Runner: Sea Bright's Iconic Bite

Perched on the Water in Sea Bright, NJ The Rum Runner is more than just a restaurant—it's a Jersey Shore staple where hospitality, history, and high-end dining come together with an unforgettable view. In our latest Culture Coverage feature, Nuculture sat down with General Manager Alex Holtz and Executive Chef Daniel Kane to get an inside look at what makes this iconic spot so memorable—whether you're planning a romantic date night or hosting a gathering with friends and family.

A View That Sets The Tone

Few places capture the coastal elegance of New Jersey like The Rum Runner. With sweeping waterfront views and a warm, relaxed ambiance, it’s the kind of place that feels like an escape—without ever leaving home. As Alex put it, “With the view, the service, and the food, you really can’t beat it.” Whether it’s golden hour cocktails or a sunset dinner, this is where locals and visitors alike come to make memories.

Culinary Craft with Local Heart

At the core of The Rum Runner’s magic is Chef Daniel Kane, whose menu balances elevated comfort food with fresh, seasonal seafood. “A huge seller for us is the 10-ounce prime burger,” he shared. “We also have our seafood risotto, which is one of our top dishes—especially in the summertime.” We had the chance to try the food ourselves—and let’s just say, it was out of this world. From the first bite to the last, every dish delivered bold flavor, perfect balance, and that unmistakable touch of coastal comfort. Backed by a kitchen team that’s both skilled and passionate, the culinary program delivers consistency and creativity, dish after dish.

Legacy, Loyalty, and Local Roots

This isn’t just a restaurant—it’s the flagship of a family. As one of ten restaurants owned and operated by Tim and Beth McLoone, The Rum Runner holds special significance as their very first. “It’s one of the reasons I’m still with this company,” Alex told us. That deep sense of loyalty, pride, and care is felt in every corner—from the staff to the service to the regulars who return time and time again.
